A Creative Passion

Framing artwork may not have been Kieren Marcombe’s original path after graduating from art school in Australia, but it quickly became a passion. Kieren discovered that framing isn’t just about preserving a piece—it’s about transforming it into a centerpiece that tells a story. Whether it’s a painting found on a memorable trip, a concert poster from a life-changing event, or a championship jersey, each piece has its own narrative, and custom framing brings that story to life.

Kieren's Journey

Kieren's Journey to owning Mobley’s Framing & Gallery began after moving to the United States. He joined Mobley’s in 2015, working under then-owner Barbara Froelich. In February 2020, Kieren officially took ownership, just weeks before the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic began. Despite the uncertainty, Mobley’s Framing & Gallery thrived, proving that even in difficult times, art and preservation remain essential to the community.

Building on Tradition

With roots dating back to 1942, Mobley’s Framing & Gallery has been a staple in Raleigh, NC, for generations. For Kieren, taking the helm of a business with such a rich history is both an honor and a challenge. "This is a chance for me to have something of my own, while also embracing the wonderful history of this shop," Kieren shares. "To incorporate my passion for art throughout every single day is a dream come true."

Kieren is committed to preserving Mobley’s core service—exceptional custom framing—while expanding its role as a community hub for art. He envisions hosting art shows and offering gallery space to showcase local talent, including his own artwork.

A Living Legacy

One of the most heartwarming moments for Kieren was a visit from an elderly woman who shared a story about buying her first paintbrush at Mobley’s as a child. Though the store no longer sells art supplies, it remains a place where memories are made and cherished. Stories like this remind Kieren of the important role Mobley’s has played in the lives of Raleigh residents for over 80 years.

Kieren takes pride in owning a piece of Raleigh’s history and is dedicated to building on the gallery’s long-standing relationships while forging new connections. “Framing is more complex than people realize,” Kieren explains. “Having a professional help find the perfect frame for your space makes a world of difference in the final product.”

Thank you for teaching me your ways and giving me the opportunity to continue and build upon your legacy."

Under Kieren’s leadership, Mobley’s Framing & Gallery is ready to continue serving Raleigh with the same dedication, creativity, and craftsmanship that has defined it for decades. Whether you’re looking to frame a treasured heirloom, a piece of art, or a keepsake, Mobley’s is here to help you preserve and showcase the moments that matter most.
